About

Established in 1985 as Whanganui’s first free community paper, River City Press was created by Andrew Plimmer and Leslie Saywood.

The office was located next to the Dublin St Service Station, behind the old TAB. Each week the RCP was pasted up and printed by Stratford Press and Printing Co.

Rhonda Ander took over the reins of the RCP as owner and editor during this time and the RCP moved to premises in Ingestre St and then to a revamped old building in Ridgway St.

In 1997, Debbie and Blair Jarrett purchased River City Press before moving to 37 Taupo Quay and then to its current location at 52 Ingestre Street. As Technology has progressed, the knife and cutting boards have been replaced by the digital age of computers.

As Editor, Debbie Jarrett maintains the RCP’s professional image, while Blair utilises his skills as a graphic designer to create the adverts for clients and keep the business up to date with modern technology.

As the ‘Good News’ paper, River City Press celebrates 39 years of providing stories, promoting businesses, and supporting local community groups and organisations.

Proud to be a locally owned and operated newspaper, River City Press is delivered every Thursday to 19,500 homes. Popular features include; Home Improvement, Specialised Tradespeople, Life’s Little Treasures, Top Service, Senior Lifestyles and many more…
